POSITION DESCRIPTION
Career EMT
The determination/need for selection of Career EMT will be at the sole discretion of management. The position is only applicable in Dubois, Lander and Riverton Division. Employee must reside within respective division of employment. Employment is not automatic, nor guaranteed with longevity of service. Position will be advertised for minimum of 10 working days.
The Career EMT is a Full-time, position with benefits. The Career EMT will be responsible for day to day operational activities in the absence of the Division Supervisor or as directed by Division Supervisor. All employee/employee or employee/employer related matters will be referred to Division Supervisor on return. Division Supervisor will schedule employee as needed to fill vacancies. Career EMT responsibilities to include, but not limited to:
- When on call, on duty, and/or after being summoned, responds to emergency calls for assistance and delivers pre-hospital emergency care under guidelines established by Fremont County Ambulance Administration and Wyoming State EMS rules and regulations.
- Will be responsible for positive, progressive counseling of crew(s) with regards to policy and procedure compliance and on the job training to nurture better patient care and team work;
- Ensure the ambulance and other emergency vehicles are ready for service by proper inspection, maintenance, and adequately stocking with the necessary equipment and supplies.
- Routinely clean the exterior/interior of the ambulance and other emergency vehicles. Clean and sanitize the ambulance interior thoroughly and wash the exterior as needed after each call and on a regular maintenance schedule.
- Clean and maintain ambulance station and quarters regularly and as directed to do so by the Division Supervisor. Perform any building maintenance only as said by such supervisor.
- Assist with preparing/coding of documentation for billing and maintain records as necessary.
- Assist with in-house training/in-service as needed or directed by Division Supervisor.
- Assist with inventory supply and control as directed by Division Supervisor.
Qualifications:
- State of Wyoming Minimum standards;
- Emergency Medical Technician Intermediate with full module skills in Multi-lumen airway (Combitube), defibrillation, needle chest decompression, cardiovascular & medical emergency medications;
- Possess desirable personality traits to include; leadership skills, problem solving, emotional stability, resourcefulness, cooperative, pleasant, neat and clean, and possess positive personal habits;
- Possess valid driver’s license.
- Minimum of 3 years experience as EMT-I or Division Supervisor discretion.
- Solid understanding of the National Incident Management System (NIMS) with minimum of 16 hour ICS/NIMS course or equivalent in field experience. Field experience to be determined by Division Supervisors;

- Occasionally: Hazards, fatigue, patient care; Frequently: Repetitive tasks, high pressure, boredom, intense tasks
- Physical Requirements:
- Occasionally: Smelling; Frequently: Lifting and/or assist lifting of 200 lbs., kneeling, stooping, bending, leaning, flexibility, multiple physical activities performed at the same time (carrying multiple equipment while pushing on cot). Constantly: Hearing/listening, clear speech, simple touching, fine motor skills, walking (inside and outside), pushing, pulling, reaching, sitting, driving ambulance, seeing.
- Working environment:
- Occasionally: Works alone, inside, confined areas, noise, other hazardous conditions (human excrement, blood, urine, mucous, tissue, asbestos); Frequently: Electrical equipment; Constantly: works with others, face-to-face contact, verbal contact with others daily, works outside, shift work, extended hours.
- Mental Requirements:
- Occasionally: Reading (simple and complex), writing (complex), memorization, analyzing, math skills (simple); Frequently: Writing (simple), judgment, reasoning; Constantly: Decision making.
Selection will be determined after:
1) Application and resume completed and returned to Division Supervisor
2) Interview with Division Supervisor and/or Medical Director(s) and Director.
Offering of position/Acceptance;
- Career EMT will complete 6 month introductory period and evaluations;
- Maintain current State Certification at all times. Any lapses result in suspension until resolved.
