| The Fremont County Detention
Center is located at 460 Railroad in Lander, Wyoming. The Facility has a
171 bed capacity and is currently running 158 beds occupied as of
08/02/2004. There are 124 beds for adults, 28 beds for juveniles and 19
short term beds. The facilities inmate housing is broken up into several
area’s. A juvenile section, an adult female section, an adult male
section, minimum security, maximum security, 6 short term isolation
cells for incoming intoxicated inmates or medical or mental inmates. The
facility segregates the juveniles from the adults and the females from
the males.
The facility stays busy with inmates
being booked in and out on a regular basis as well as inmates being
transported to court appearances and medical appointments. The staff is
cross trained to work in a variety of different job functions and
responsibilities from Booking Officers that book prisoners in and
fingerprint them to Control Technicians that operate the doors, lights
and communications for the facility to Pod Officers that are walking
through the pods and cells to assure inmate and staff security to one of
several other facility duties. The facility employs two full time cooks
and two part time cooks, one full time Physicians Assistant and a full
time teacher with two part time teachers for juveniles.
