The County Treasurer's office is responsible for collecting sales and use tax on all motor vehicle sales. The sales tax rate for motor vehicles is based on the address of the vehicle owner, not where the sale occurred. Sales tax will be calculated based on a bill of sale regardless of whether the purchase was made through a dealership or through a private sale. The owner has 65 days from the date of purchase to pay the sales tax due. Late payments will incur interest and a civil penalty.

The current sales tax rate in Fremont County is 5.5%. Sales taxes that are collected by the County Treasurer's office are remitted monthly to the Wyoming Department of Revenue. The Department then distributes a portion of the tax to the state and also to the county and incorporated cities within the county based on population.
